About Us
Motto: We meet to eat and cruise for food.
In the spring of 1984, the Corvette Club of Marion County was developed. The club was started by a group of friends that liked to spend time together. Their favorite hobby and passion, The Corvette. In the process they would travel to various places to eat and show off their cars. Glen & Roxy Sims and Roger DeConna were the founding members with Glen and Roxy still active members in the club. In just a few months the club grew to 30+ families and as many as 75 families at the height of their existence. After a brief period, CCMC joined The National Council of Corvette Clubs. Membership continued to grow and soon we were known as a fun and family-oriented club with activities for everyone to enjoy. A slogan heard around the Corvette world is: We joined for the love of the Corvette and stayed for the friendship of the members. Today, we have more than 65 families.
CCMC activities we have participated in include poker runs, cruise ins, charity events, social events, etc. We have put many, many, miles on our cars visiting places like South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, and Alabama not to mention the many excursions in the state of Florida itself. It is also important to note that at the same time as the club was sanctioned, we also became members of The National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green Kentucky. To this day, we continue to support the National Corvette Museum (NCM) with our donations going to the support of the museum and to the continuing education of the children.
Our club supports 2 local charities here in Marion County: IES (Interfaith Food 4 Kids) and the Arnette House. We also participate in Toys for Tots sponsored by Sullivan Cadillac. We are a non-profit organization, functioning financially as a self-supporting organization. Operating/donated funds are raised through dues and our All Corvette Car Show, held on the 2nd Saturday in the month November. The club is incorporated under the laws of the State of Florida. We are governed by a club set of By-Laws. Membership goes from January through December. Our monthly General Business Meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of every month at Mimi’s Café, located in Heath Brook Shopping Center. Everyone is welcome to attend. Roberts Rules of Standard Business meetings are adhered too. The monthly meeting is a valuable insight into the clubs activities and activity planning as well as the state of the club. The club board works to manage and coordinate all functions of the club and bring all business requiring a vote to the membership at the monthly meeting. We actively participate in the “Save the Wave” campaign. We are currently sponsored by 19 businesses in the county.
